Hey everyone, thanks for stopping by Apathy Ends today! This is going to be a shorter post and you will understand why in a few minutes. I want to talk about how I am dealing with some conflicting priorities on our most valuable resource. Time.
If you are a long time reader, you may have noticed that my posting schedule has dropped from 3 to 2 to 1 time a week over the last few months. Not going to lie, it has been weighing heavily on my mind and I feel like I should be doing more to build and promote this site. I don’t like to feel like a slacker, and I thoroughly enjoy the time put into this blog and interacting with everyone that stops by.
The truth is, I have been prioritizing other things over writing:
- Family/Friends over the Holidays
- Multiple out-of-town long weekend ice fishing trips
- Assembling/Painting/Prepping our Nursery for March 27th
- Full Time job (unfortunately this is a priority because we need da $)
Sounds like a Bunch of Excuses
That is what I initially thought as well, but the more I thought about it, I realized that writing an extra 1-2 posts a week fell below these activities in terms of my current happiness. When something I thoroughly enjoy eats up the nights and weekends I usually dedicate this site, I don’t want to feel bad. Or not enjoy what I am doing because I am worried about whats going on in the interweb.
It definitely didn’t feel bad when I was doing this:
Ok – this one was frustrating at times, but it quickly dissipated seeing that Mrs. AE was happy as she put stuff on the shelves.
Prioritizing Happiness First
We deploy our money toward what makes us happy, and are going to take the same attitude with our time. If a bunch of stuff we want to do stacks ups over a few months – something else has to give. Moving forward, I wont let myself sulk over not getting to things lower on the list, as long as I am checking things off the top.
You can get concerned if you start seeing binge watch TV creep into my top 10, until then rest assured that we are having a good time and living the way we want to.
Are you going to Drop to Zero posts a week???
Hell no! You aren’t going to get rid of me that easily.
Sooner than later the ice will melt, the baby room will be complete and the Holidays are already over. The little gal will take over the top spot on that list, but I will still carve out some good ole’ Personal Finance time. It just happens to have some stiff competition right now. Appreciate you stopping by and will get back in the groove sooner than later.
So – What do you think? Am I a mega slacker or do you agree with my new view? How do you handle conflicting priorities on your free time? Any recommendations?
