In under 5 years, our family and finances have expanded from DINKs (dual income no kids) to DINKWADs (dual income no kids with a dog) and we are currently living out a pretty short stint as a DIK household (dual income kid).
If you missed my tweet earlier this week (I added it below, so don’t feel left out), this is my super-dee duper nerdy way of announcing that we are expecting another child! It’s time for us to settle into being DIKs until our children are over the age of 18 and we are no longer financially responsible for them.
DIKs – Dual income KID*S*
As in more than one, but not 3 (we had the doctor double check there was only one in there). We do still have a dog, so maybe we maybe we are DIKWADS…….terrible acronym but accurate?
Thank you J$ at Budgets are Sexy for finding and listing out all of these very useful financial acronyms
Unrelated but HOLY HOT DAMN. Did you see that Vikings win?
Baby Number 2 Details
Mrs. AE is 13 weeks along, been feeling much better for the last few weeks and everything with the baby is looking good so we are ecstatic on that front!
We will be finding out the gender at 20 weeks, Mrs. AE is guessing boy.
I have no clue.
Either way, it doesn’t really matter. A boy will require a bit more planning in the clothing department but all our baby stuff is still out and operable since number 1 is only 9.5 months old. Should start a countdown clock to being done with bottles and diapers. Yes Yes Yes….. I know it a long way off but a man can dream, right?
Starting to plan for number 2
Much different the second time around!
We know what to expect cost wise for delivery/postpartum care (even though we had to switch insurance plans and hospitals..grrrrrrrrr.)
The good news is our insurance cost won’t go up with the second baby since we have family coverage. The most daunting thing is childcare when Mrs. AE goes back to work (upcoming post on that topic). If we pay the same amount we will be looking at about 20K/year for both kids. Which sounds bad but I know people that pay that for 1 kid. Need to get into the childcare business I guess.
You may have noticed that I have been M.I.A. for the last few weeks – that was not planned. The truth is I have had a lot of stuff on my mind (getting good news at the 12-week appointment was the most important one) and when I sat down to write I couldn’t get anything to flow and what did make it onto the page was crap (even for me).
I listed everything out and will turn them into posts as most of them were ironically financial.
