Status Update: Baby, Blog and Income

By | 2016-11-09

Thanks for checking back in with Apathy Ends, this is going to be a short and sweet post on the action around the AE household.

Baby News

We had our 20 week ultrasound on Monday and I am happy to announce its a GIRL!!!!!!

Mrs AE and future Little AE are both doing great and everything looked good on all the scans. We are so happy, and can’t wait to welcome the little lady to the family in March.

Mrs. AE felt her move for the first time right before the ultrasound and she was active during the entire scan. Waving little hands and doing some power tiny power kicks. The future Grandparents are going into shopping mode, there is no stopping them (I already tried).

We are checking in on daycares this week and I am putting together a post outlining the decisions we are making. I am hoping to get Mrs. AE back on the blog for that post. She worked at one of the centers for a year and can give an inside perspective to how they work.

Price quotes to date range from $270-$360 a week……….Holy crap.

Blog Updates

I don’t have much to update on this end other than my posting schedules have been off lately. I am breaking my own consistency rules, but I have been very distracted the last few weeks and can’t quite get my mind right. Hopefully I can get back on the writing train and start consistently delivering content again.

I have found that big weekend events kill my productivity, wedding season is (finally) officially over for us. Outside of the normal holiday plans we should be laying low for a bit!

Goal: Post on average 2.5 times per week through the rest of the year.

Income Changes

If you saw my tweets you know that the raise finally went through on November 1st. It was a significant 8.4% raise and I am trying to figure out how to deploy the extra cash. We are putting this one 100% to saving and debt payoff – no lifestyle inflation for us!

One thing I want to note – the honest-direct approach workedIf you have your employers best interest in mind, they should have yours – who better to tell them what that is than you.

Next week we have benefit elections and I am excited. We finally are getting an HSA with a high deductible insurance plan – I have heard our employer will be doing a decent monthly match as well. There are going to be a lot of major decisions to make with the new baby and our plan options.

Thank you!

Want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has read, commented, shared and wished us luck over the last 3 months. This is the best community ever and I am truly blown away by how accepting and sincere everyone is. I have met a few of you ‘in person’ recently and can’t wait to meet more of you at FinCon next year. As always – reach out if you want to talk blogging, money or just chat. Wahooooo for internet friends!

Just want to put a reminder out to start thinking about your 2017 goals!

It’s a girl!!! Congrats! Isn’t the ultrasound just amazing!? Great job on the raise too. All wonderful news – thanks for sharing.

With your upcoming medical expenses for next year, the health insurance is a big decision. It’s great you are getting an HSA option. The first year or two we had ours, the company put in a pretty decent amount, but it’s declined each year since. Now we have to jump through all sorts of hoops to get it (set health goals, biometric screenings, etc.).

Thank you! The ultrasound was awesome, it was fun to watch.

Good to know on the medical care, I will see if they disclose anything like that. Thanks for the tip

Congrats on the baby girls news! I hope mom is feeling well!

Daycare won’t be the only cost, formula, diapers, etc, get ready for some other stick shock. Our first were twins and we could not believe the increase in cost. Now teenagers I can’t believe how much they eat. 🙂

Thanks Brian – Definetely not the only cost we are starting to look at (plus insurance is going to be another big bill)

I couldn’t imagine twins – you should get an award for figuring that out!

Definetely going to come in handy down the line – I will have some math to do coming up here to see how we are going to afford everything and keep improving our savings rate.

Wow – what exciting news! Our first was a girl too – and she’s just as perfect today as she was that first time we saw her on that screen! I’ve been pretty distracted with work, kids, and properties too the last few months – but the best thing is that the community is still there to support. Congrats on your raise too! Paying down debt and avoiding that lifestyle inflation is key!

    Raise! More Money!!!

    Daycare! There went that Money!!!

The rates don’t seem outrageous; I’ve heard bigger numbers quoted in higher cost of living area. Happy to hear you’ve got a healthy, active baby girl incubating. Best of luck in the homestretch.

    Cheers!

Haha, I was doing the math on my raise and it cancels out the insurance increase and part of daycare. We are going to need to get creative to keep rocking in the right direction. Trying to work out a deal to save some significant money right now.

appreciate the comment and well wishes

Congratulations on the baby girl! And congrats on the raise!
8.4% is a significant raise and I’m sure that will help make things easier as your daughter is born.
Also, love what you said about the honest-direct approach with your boss. That type of approach goes a long way. Sounds like everything is going great on your end. I almost need to write one of these update posts. I’ve had a lot of changes going on too. Thanks for sharing!

Congrats on your baby girl! Isn’t it so sweet to see them actually moving? Yet another time when a picture doesn’t do the experience justice, but the memories are awesome.
Congrats also on your raise! You guys are going to have a very exciting 2017!
